Not Able to Open Document Library in Windows Explorer View

    Hello;

hope I can get a little help.

After creating a Document Library the Windows Explorer "view" does not do anything. I found this whitepaper:

Understanding and Troubleshooting SharePoint Explorer View.doc

but all the fixes have error messages associated with them. Upon clicking, it  simply clicks and then says "done" in the status bar.

Is there a setting I am missing or a work around?

     I greatly appreciate any help.

    Gary

Have you tried to add the site as a 'Trusted Site' in your IE settings?  Also ensure that Active X Controls are allowed to run.

    Thanks,

Since you are not getting errors, I'm wondering if it is as simple as a pop-up blocker.  Try holding down the Control key (IE6) or Control & Alt keys (IE7) before and during when you click the menu option.

Re: Not Able to Open Document Library in Windows Explorer View

Thank you both for your replies. I have found that if the library is deleted and rrecreated, the explorer view will work. Not the greatest remedy but cannot find an answer...Thanks again..

Did anyone ever figure this out?  Deleting and recreating the document libraries didn't work for me.  I'm still getting the "Page Not Found" error.

Re: Not Able to Open Document Library in Windows Explorer View

from my environment, it has to do with the length of the name of the doc library(which is actually the template url) . Explorer view does not do anything, no errors..nothing. If I create a doc library with a shorter name, it works (Explorer View opens)...

I have seen circumstances when "Page not Found" errors were generated because URL strings were longer than 255 characters. Try creating a VERY short name for the library to see if that is the problem. If you can, then access the library, do a net search on how to override the default URL limitiation settings in SharePoint 2007.

    I found elsewhere on web:

Start the "WebDav" service. This fixed it for me.

Re: Not Able to Open Document Library in Windows Explorer View

The issue I had (when clicking to open Exploere View nothing happened at all). The answer is the document library name cannot exceed 255 chars.

For the other issues with error messages-the answers have already been posted in this thread.

Thank you all for your replies and help.

Install Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306) from the below location. It solves the problem.
