    List of user permissions

WSS3 ONLY:  I want to generate a list of each user, subsite or large object (Doc Library, but not necessarily each folder and file) the user has permissions to, and what that permission is.  I think that this is a common desire, and it seems to me to be a basic admin tool.  I believe that MS has intentionally not provided this information, as a way of making MOSS seem sweeter--I could be wrong.

Meanwhile, what efforts in this direction have people here seen?  Successes? Promising efforts?

I have SP designer, I can learn ASP.  What I don't have is a way to learn my users' current detailed permissions.  Which is bad, because we're joining a new AD structure, and soon, NONE OF THEM will have permission to anything other than the default "All Authenticated Users" areas.

     Thank you in advance,

    Haakon,

I too am looking for the same thing.  All I have found is third party tools and small code snippets.  I wish someone would just post nice and consistent code that spins through a site collection and gives you a list of the users, what sites they are a member of, and what permissions that have in that site.  I don't need down to the item level detail.  Have you come across anything?

Sir, I regret to inform you that I have found exactly nothing. My frustration with SharePoint is complete.

Same here.  Besides third-party products, I haven't really found anything.  I know the OM supports the ability to do this and if I had the time to sit down and write the code to do it, I would.  But it seems crazy that something as basic like this isn't included in the product.

    Re: List of user permissions

i am trying to create something to allow an admin to create alerts for other users. Im using Jan Tielens webpart as the basis for it:

    http://weblogs.asp.net/jan/archive/2004/03/27/97335.aspx

part of this is ascertaining the users permissions. I found this code:

    http://www.vbdotnetheaven.com/UploadFile/ssahmed/spuserperm09192006044916AM/spuserperm.aspx

its vb and it's Sharepoint 2003 but im hoping that this will give me a start point. If i can achieve what i need i dont think it would be too much of a leap for you guys to get to what you want, so i will report back on this thread when (if!!!) i get it working !!!
