    Change permanent field type

I guess this question have been asked multiple times, but I haven't found any answer although I hope the answer is simple.

I have an ordinary list i Sharepoint. The problem is that the "first" field is of type "One line text". This field has all the functionality for a row in list, such as edit, view and so on. The problem is that I would like it to be a lookup field for persons and groups.

I have added such a field too, but I would like them to be the same field.

I guess there is two alternatives:

    • Change the type of the list field that comes with the template.
    • Change the field that holds all functions and put all functions on another field.

Is it possible? How? Which one of the alternatives is simplest?
