Fresh install & missing icons :-(

I just created a fresh install of MOSS.  I created Top Level site (Collaboration Portal) and when viewing the page, almost all the icons (RSS, Announcements, Documents, etc....) are missing.  I just have the typical square with the red "X". Anyone know why this is happening?

When you right-click the red Xs and select properties, what is the url for the picture that is supposed to be displayed? What is the url for your home page?

Re: Fresh install & missing icons :-(

The reason I asked for the url was to see if the icons were pointed to the wrong place. If you go onto the server, can you load the icons from there?

One of the first things I do in this type of situations is check the Alternate Access Mappings. Are the AAMs setup correctly?

Also, you need to make sure the _layouts folder for the website in IIS is pointed to \program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\template\layouts

    Not from the server either.

My AAM has an internal mapping of (http://afnorth.tyndall.af.mil) and the same for the Public URL.

The _layouts folder for the website in IIS is pointing to that location.

    I'm still baffled. Huh?

Just resolved a similar issue myself.

When i restored our Moss site to another server, the icons seemed to disappear!

The solution:In IIS the _layout directory is case sensitive (If you choose to type it in)

When i actaully clicked the browse button and drilled down the directory all icons were restored.

    Hope this hepls

I spent about a day working on this, crazy!
