    Scan to Sharepoint through MFP

    Hi all,

I am doing some research about scanning from a MFP (Multifunctional Printer) to sharepoint. I know that some MFPs have the capability to scan to FTP or scan to SMB. My question is, does anyone knows if it is possible to scan to sahrepoint using this  protocols ?

    regards,

I believe for searching in MOSS you can specify another SharePoint site, a public Website, a Network Share or Business Data (BDC).  I don't see any options in the Central Admin for connecting to an FTP.  There are vendors out there like SharePoint Data Services that do offer add-ons to allow scanning storage into SharePoint.

    Thanks,

I had been working on this with Canon imageRunner 5500 series, but I could not get is to work either by SMB or even email, for some reason SharePoint did not like the user or something.

If you are looking to scan to SharePoint through an MFP, you would be best served to look for solutions with direct integrations into SharePoint.  Solutions like eCopy ShareScan can store scanned documents directly into SharePoint locations from MFPs, for immediate use by SharePoint users.

Check out http://www.ecopy.com/Products_eCopy_Connector_for_Microsoft_SharePoint.asp for more information.

There are a couple of directions you can go.  The best solution I have seen for directly scanning into SharePoint would be eCopy.  If your MFP has a TWAIN driver, you can utilize a number of tools out there to scan into the repository.

I wrote a few articles at the URL below with some additional info:

There is  another solution that works very well for allowing multiple MFPs to scan directly into SharePoint. It is more powerful than what has been discussed here so far, is easier to setup, and costs substantially less (good things, right?).

The MFPs scan to a network folder where software monitors the folder(s) and then captures the scans into a capture workflow. The final step of the capture workflow migrates an image or batches of images into SharePoint as TIF and/or as text searchable PDF. This works with WSS or MOSS versions of the SharePoint platform.

Re: Scan to Sharepoint through MFP

At Dark Blue Duck we offer the Scanning Enabler product.

The Scanning Enabler can be used:

The Scanning Enabler's support for Multifunction Printers (MFPs) and Digital Senders is based on Routing Coversheets, Content Type Sheets and Site Column Value Sheets. These are printed pages that are scanned by the MFP and used to let the Scanning Enabler know where the scanned document should be stored and what index (column) values to set. Documents can be sent directly to Document Library folders or SharePoint List Items (as attachments).

The Coversheet Routing Service must be configured to pick up incoming work from a "drop" location. This can be an SMTP (email) drop folder or an SMB (windows) share. From the end user point of view the Multifunction Printer is sending directly to SharePoint and directly to the correct place within the SharePoint repository. MFP users are not required to know where the "correct place" is. They are not required to touch a keyboard. The drop location can be configured as "write only" so security can be very tightly configured.

So see what this solution looks like to an end user click here and here.

So see how this solution can be configured to work with an HP MFP click here.

In any case please get in touch. Please let us know how we might improve this solution to meet your specific needs. We are happy to help Solution Architects and others to extend our products as required.

    Kind regards

    Dark Blue Duck
