Getting Kerberos Error 4 after enabling Kerberos authetication in web application

    Hi All,

We have an intranet website running in Sharepoint 2007, it was called - intranet.abc.com, later on we extended it to epic.abc.com. We need to enable Kerberos authentication to add an interactive map in the site.

We have a test sharepoint 2007 server in VMware were we test all our web applications before we do anything in production. We have the same web site running in this test server. I tried enabling Kerberos authentication by doing the following - I registered the sql server spn in the sharepoint admin account and registered the HTTP/intranet.abc.com and HTTP/epic.abc.com spns under the service account under which the web applications are running. After that I enabled Kerberos in this site. When I try to access this web site I am prompted for creds - I am not able to access this site after adding the creds. When I check the event logs in the client Machine I see Kerberos Error 4.

I created a new web application, extended it and registered the spns like I did above and enabled kerberos on this site. Kerberos works no problems. Kerberos authentication works on a newly created web app, but will not work on the old web site.

I opened a ticket with Microsoft, but the Tech would not help me saying that they don't support VMware. He would not even do the basic troubleshooting. Anyways it seemed like I knew more than he did. To me it felt like he was trying to brush me aside. I am sure this is not a VMware issue. I cannot risk down time on the production environment by trying to enable kerberos on the production site. Please if anybody has come accross this issue before and know how to fix it give me a solution.

     Thanks in advance

    Raj
