I have a list that contains a multi value lookup field.
In the list overview, when trying to filter on this field, the list of values presented in the filter-drop-down list is unsorted and a message "This column type cannot be sorted" is shown at the top of the drop-down list.
I did some research and only found one single forum post on the internet that stated that multi value columns cannot be sorted and there is no workaround.
BUT: Another view on the same list that simply has less items as result, shows the value list of the same field sorted correctly although the "This column type cannot be sorted" message is shown on top.
AND: In another list I use the same field and again although the "This column type cannot be sorted" message is shown on top of the filter-drop-down list, the values are sorted correctly. This list contains less items than the other one.
So the question is: Is there a known and documented limit of items that still allows multi value columns to be sorted in the filter-drop-down list? Or is there a workaround for this issue?
