    Cannot install Search Server 2008

    Hello everyone,

Whenever I try to install Search Server 2008 on my SharePoint server, I get the following error:

This Office Server product cannot be installed on a server with an earlier release of an Office Server product installed.  Uninstall the existing product and re-run setup.

I have MOSS 2007 SP1 installed, how much more recent than that can I possibly get?  If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong here, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Keith

To answer your last question first, you are installing SS 2008 on a MOSS 2007. SS 2008 is more recent than 2007, right?

Now... Why would you want to install SS on top of MOSS when you already have more or less the same search system in MOSS?

My understanding is that SS has greater functionality than the MOSS search in that I can set it to search file shares as well.  If this is already built into MOSS, then you've just saved me some work.
