    Automatic uploading of documents

I have a requirement to create reports in pdf and post them to a Sharepoint site.  Is there a way to automatically upload documents?  We are using SharePoint Services 2003.

    Thanks,

    Brooks

    Brooks,

This shouldv'e been posted into the SharePoint "V2" forum instead since this one is for MOSS and WSS V3 questions, and you mentioned using SPS 2003, but I'll go ahead and give you some insight on how you may be able to tackle your particular problem. Stick out tongue

One of the easiest ways to get documents posted up to a site in WSS 2.0 is to simply just the "My Network Places" option on the client machines.  For example, if you had a site at http://myportal/sites/test , the shared documents library would be http://myportal/sites/test/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx for viewing its conetnts.  If you wanted to make a "Network Place" on a client machine for a user that had access to upload to that library, do the following:

    • On the client machine go to "My Network Places".
    • Select "Add a network place" from the tasks options on the left and follow the instructions in the wizard that pops up.
    • For the address to type in, enter it in the following format: "http://myportal/sites/test/Shared%20Documents"
    • \When prompted, enter network credentials then give the site a name that you can reference it by in the "Network Places" folder list.
    • Click finish to complete the wizard (if you leave the checkbox checked on this screen the document library will now open in an explorer view).

Now that you have this set up, you can navigate to it like any other directory when you want to publish a PDF file to the site.  After creating the PDF file, you can simply "drag-and-drop" it through windows explorer to place the file into the shared docs library for the site.

Additionally, there are a few other methods of publishing files to a WSS 2.0 site (Mike Walsh does a great job of detailing them on his site here), but I have used this method for several years now and it seems to be one of the easiest methods by far.

Hope some of this helped :)
