How to allow a user to pick a content-type before uploading a file

SharePoint uses the default content-type when a user uploads a file. Is it possible to customize the \12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\Upload.aspx file so it would let the user to pick a content-type instead of the default one? Any ideas? Thanks,
