  • Re: RSS Viwer Web Parts in WSS 3.0 server

I initially ran into an issue with installing because the instructions that are presented at the end of the file extraction process says to run these commands: stsadm -o addsolution -filename %YOUR_INSTALL_DIR%\SharePoint.WebParts.Rss.wsp stsadm -o deploysolution -name SmilingGoat.SharePoint.WebParts...

I personally use the simple, free RSS reader: RSS FeedReader from the Codeplex site: http://www.codeplex.com/FeedReader I deployed it on my WSS 3.0 server and it works great.

  • Re: RSS Viwer Web Parts in WSS 3.0 server

I know this is an old thread, but I have the answer so I thought I'd post it for anyone else searching for ways to do this. It is true that WSS 3.0 does not include the RSS Viewer Web Part. That's why you were unable to develop the site on MOSS and then import it to WSS. However, you can achieve...

  • Re: Is it possible to display an RSS feed in a publishing site?

A coworker of mine has been doing a lot of work for a different client who is building several custom MOSS publishing sites, so I pinged him to see if he could duplicate my problem. He opened up one of his sandbox publishing sites, checked the web part gallery and lo and behold, there's the RSS Viewer...

  • Is it possible to display an RSS feed in a publishing site?

I've been trying to display the output of an RSS feed in a couple of different publishing sites I'm working on without any success, so I'm wondering if such a thing is possible. Even when I create a stock site using the Publishing Site template I run into problems trying to add a web part...

  • Re: Rss authenticate feed

I'm not sure about your log-in errors, but I do know that authenticated feeds are a major limitation of the RSS Feed Viewer web part built into MOSS. The stock RSS web part cannot consume authenticated feeds (feeds that come from a URL starting with HTTPS://). So if your MOSS site uses SSL certifications...

  • Re: Allow RSS to reader

As David says, make sure the feed is exposed to the general public. Another catch is that the RSS reader web part can not read authenticated feeds , so if you are in a secure environment, your End User will have to use Outlook to view the exposed feeds. Regards, Mark EndUserSharePoint.com

  • Re: Too many Alerts

Management of alerts is one of the biggest pains there is from an End User perspective. How about taking a different approach... activate RSS on the lists and libraries affected, have your users register for the feeds and do away entirely with alerts. Just a thought. Mark EndUserSharePoint.com
